January arrival has been impressing Celtic squad at Lennoxtown

Stephen Welsh has revealed just how impressed he has been with Nicolas Kuhn since he joined Celtic in January.

The German winger was brought to the club for £3m and initially struggled to find his feet. Brendan Rodgers recently shared just how difficult it has been for Kuhn to settle at the club due to a health issue.

And now that he seems to have fully recovered, the Celtic fans have witnessed precisely why Rodgers forked out the cash he did to bring Kuhn to the club with his recent performances against Livingston and St Johnstone.

But for Stephen Welsh, what we are currently seeing from the 24-year-old winger is not a surprise. In fact, the Celtic defender says that from the first time him and his teammates saw Kuhn in training, they knew he was a quality player.

Welsh said [Daily Record], “We saw it in training, the first few weeks. Coming to a club like this the pressure is on you every week to perform so the last couple of games he’s been excellent.

“He showed against St Johnstone the quality he’s got and that’s why we brought him to the club.”

Kuhn burst onto the scene at Celtic with an assist in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in January. But since then he has never really got going.

The Celtic fans saw signs of a player at Pittodrie and in some flashes at Easter Road in the 2-1 win but since then Kuhn has flattered to deceive.

And it’s little wonder. The problem he had with his teeth clearly meant that the German had trouble eating and as a result he lost a lot of weight which led to him feeling weak.

Now that seems to be behind him, his impressive performance against Livingston was backed up with a man-of-the-match display against St Johnstone on Saturday and it looks like Kuhn is hitting form just when we need him.

With the Rangers game edging ever closer, it does seem that in Kuhn, we have a player who can cause the Ibrox club all sorts of problems.
