The England goalkeeper returned back to South London yesterday after sustaining an elbow injury, which has now been reported as being potentially season-ending.
It’s terrible timing for Glasner, who will want to see his side really kick on as the home straight of the 2023/24 campaign beckons although, good news looks to be on the horizon.
Crystal Palace handed Cheick Doucoure injury boost
As highlighted by the popular Twitter account, The Palace Way, Cheick Doucoure has been spotted back in the gym training with his teammates.
The 24-year-old suffered an agonising Achilles tendon rupture back in November, with the injury speculated to be of a season-ending nature.
While it still looks as though the Mali international will need to wait for the 2024/25 campaign to return to his best for the Eagles, it’s certainly a boost to see the prized midfielder back around his teammates.
Having already missed 27 games for Palace this season, Doucoure will be eager to return to action and get a taste of playing under Glasner, with inclusion in the club’s plans around mid-May hoped to be a possibility.
Crystal Palace have really missed Cheick Doucoure
Losing Doucoure was never going to be easy for Palace, considering the tireless work the midfielder does in the engine room for his side.
The Eagles think highly of the 24-year-old, who was handed a contract extension last month, seeing him branded as “outstanding” by co-owner, Steve Parish.
It’s unsurprising that the club were keen to lock the dominating midfielder down, particularly when assessing his numbers following his arrival in the Premier League.
With statistics provided by WhoScored, Doucoure tops the charts at Palace this season for his rate of 3.1 tackles per game and 1.8 interceptions per game, telling of the protection he offers in the engine room.
As well as being a reliable force at snubbing out danger, the 2000-born gem has the second-highest pass completion rate in the squad, averaging a tidy 87.2% success rate per game in the Premier League.
Glasner will be glad to see the Palace enforcer on the mend and progressing towards working with the ball, with the manager yet to have the 24-year-old at his disposal.
