Tottenham chief Levy will be licking his lips at no-questions-asked

Tottenham are in line for a payment of of €18.62million (£16m) should they qualify for the new-look Champions League next season.

UEFA shared details of the payment breakdown for the 2024-25 season in a revenue distribution document published on its official website.

Each of the 36 teams that qualify for the league phase will receive that aforementioned payment regardless of how they perform.

Tottenham on course for Champions League return

Tottenham could therefore lose all eight ‘league’ games and still land the hefty windfall, which is an increase on the £13.3m from this season.

The payment is made up of an initial down payment of €17.87m (£15.3m) and then the rest made up of instalments as the campaign goes on.

Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League, which could be enough for a place in the Champions League depending on coefficient rankings.

Ange Postecoglou will be eager to finish fourth, though, which is achievable as Aston Villa are three points better off having played a game more.

And Daniel Levy’s mouth will be watering at what is possible if Spurs not only qualify for the Champions League but also reach the knockouts.

That is because, as per the UEFA report, €2.467billion (£2.1bn) will be distributed to clubs in that competition alone next season.

That is a little over 74 per cent of the overall UEFA prize pot of €4.4bn (£3.8bn) for each of its club competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

Even making it to the qualifying phase and losing is worth €4.29m (£3.7m), but that is not a category Tottenham need to concern themselves with.

If they make it to the league phase, Spurs will be given a further €2.1m (£1.8m) for every victory and €700k (£650k) for each draw.

The final ranking in the league will determine how much each club receives in further fees, with the lowest-ranked team given €275k (£236k).

And if Tottenham were to make it to the knockout-round play-off, that is another €1m (£858k), and €11m (£9.4m) if they make the last 16.

It goes without saying that some serious money is on the line, ranging all the way to an additional payment of €6.5m (£5.6m) for winning the whole thing.

Tottenham fans can dare to dream of that scenario, but simply making it into the league phase would be a nice enough bonus for Levy.
