Aston Villa will now hope that one of their key players can replicate his display against Wolves tomorrow night at the Etihad Stadium, he was just named in Alan Shearer’s team of the week.

After the highs of beating Wolves 2-0 at Villa Park on Saturday, Aston Villa will be eager to replicate their win over the Old Gold against Manchester City tomorrow evening.

Unai Emery’s side will face a host of hurdles before reaching the 2023/24 Premier League finish line, with every game a must-win in terms of their top-four hopes, as Spurs continue to breathe down the Villans’ necks.

Battling Pep Guardiola’s treble winners will be a far greater task than gaining three points against Gary O’Neil’s depleted side, with one man holding the key to boost Villa against the Sky Blues.

Aston Villa star named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week

For his display against Wolves, Ezri Konsa recorded another impressive week in his career to help Villa get the win over their Midlands rivals.

After a glowing time on international duty with England, the 26-year-old shone again at right-back for Emery’s side, not only by being defensively strong but by contributing to the goals too.

By netting Villa’s second against the Old Gold, Konsa scored his first Premier League goal, capping off an overall impressive performance that has seen him named in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.

To explain his decision to name Konsa as his best XI’s right-back, Shearer wrote:

“Solid at the back and weighed in with a crucial second goal, even if he didn’t know much about it!”

Aston Villa will now need Ezri Konsa to continue his strong form

Aside from his goal, Konsa showcased just why Emery enjoys fielding the England international on the right side of defence rather than at centre-back.

Now, the versatile defender must replicate his performances for both club and country in recent weeks against Manchester City, which will provide the £75k-a-week star with a whole new challenge.

Having already passed the Vinicius Junior test against Brazil, there’s no denying that Konsa can limit the threat of an influential left winger, which he must now replicate as he prepares to go head-to-head with Phil Foden.

The Manchester City ace has 18 goal contributions in the Premier League this season, consistently proving to be a dangerous threat to his opponents due to the quality of his overall play.

Konsa must now be at his brilliant best to snub out the trickery of his international teammate, in what is poised to be an interesting battle at the Etihad.
