Michail Antonio and Callum Wilson shared a BBC podcast together before the Newcastle United man stepped down earlier this season
Michail Antonio has revealed Callum Wilson poked fun at him following Newcastle United’s 4-3 win over West Ham.
The duo hosted a BBC podcast together for several years before Wilson stepped down earlier this season. Both Premier League stars would jibe with one another on the show whenever Newcastle and West Ham faced off.
However, Wilson, who boasts a prolific record against the Hammers, was forced to watch on from the sidelines due to injury. The 32-year-old has been ruled out since suffering a pectoral problem in the dying embers of February’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
West Ham forward Antonio bagged a first-half equaliser at St James’ Park last weekend, sending David Moyes’ side on their way to a comfortable 3-1 lead. However, the tables turned late on, with Alexander Isak and a Harvey Barnes brace snatching a dramatic 4-3 victory.
A win moved Newcastle to within one point of the Hammers in the race for European football. Speaking on his podcast, now rebranded as The Players Channel, Antonio discussed what Wilson messaged him post-match – while insisting the magpies “don’t deserve” to finish above West Ham.
“The guy did message me after the game saying that your fans wanted to go ‘whey’ in the 69th minute,” he said. “He kind of dropped me that message and I was like ahh, I said if the game ended 3-1 you wouldn’t be on my phone right now. And he said ‘Well it didn’t’.
“Obviously, he tried to pop up at the end of the game because Newcastle turned up but I couldn’t say much to him. I was a bit annoyed by the fact we lost the game and I just don’t feel like they deserve to finish above us. So no, we can’t allow it and it’s not going to happen.”
