IPL 2024 Morgan backs Rishabh Pant to play T20 World Cup 2024

IPL 2024: Eoin Morgan seems to be impressed with Rishabh Pant’s superb comeback post-car accident. Morgan says Pant’s impressive performance in the IPL makes him a strong contender for India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Rishabh Pant’s swift return to form following a harrowing car accident has caught the attention of former England captain Eoin Morgan, who believes Pant’s X-factor warrants his inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad. Despite being sidelined for 14 months, Pant has impressed with two half-centuries in just five games and boasts a formidable strike rate of 154.54. While other contenders like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma vie for the wicketkeeper-batsman position, Pant’s stellar IPL performance has propelled him to the forefront of consideration. When pressed on his preference for Pant over his competitors, Morgan’s reasoning was unequivocal.

” (I would pick him) because he is the player that he is. I don’t see him being hampered in anyway coming back from his car crash. For me he is a very disruptive player. “As a leftie he can play a big role in the middle order and add a huge amount of pressure as opposed to generic right-handers,” said the ODI World Cup-winning captain in his response to a PTI query during an interaction organised by Jio Cinema.

The selectors are set to finalize India’s squad for the T20 World Cup in the first week of May, with the seasoned campaigner Virat Kohli being a lock for the final 15. Morgan, a shrewd leader himself, asserts that Kohli’s performance in the ongoing IPL remains unquestionable, especially given the lack of support from other batsmen. Despite the tournament being in its early stages, Kohli stands atop the batting charts with an impressive tally of 316 runs in five innings, boasting a strike rate of 146.29. However, amidst Kohli’s stellar show, RCB finds themselves at the bottom of the table, largely due to the failure of other players to meet expectations.

“It is very difficult to point finger at a guy who is the holder of the orange cap and the rest of the batting line is not scoring runs. I don’t see a point in that. For RCB they are struggling with the bowling and the rest of the batting why would I place blame on someone who is scoring the majority of the runs,” said Morgan.
