“He’s a sensation” – Praise heaped on Aston Villa star

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is a ‘sensation’ with one particularly ‘phenomenal’ ability that other strikers should learn to copy.Desperate or decent? Should Man Utd sign Ollie Watkins? | Goal.com Nigeria

That’s according to former Dutch footballer Marciano Vink, who has heaped praise on the Aston Villa striker as he continues to shine this season.

Watkins is enjoying the best season of his career to date after continuing his development under Unai Emery, who has made him the undisputed star of his team since arriving as manager last year.

That’s seen Watkins manage 21 goals and 10 assists in 38 games in all competitions so far this season, continuing the fine form he showed last season when he had 16 goals and six assists in 40 games in all competitions.

His numbers under Emery stand out the most, with a tally of 35 goals and 14 assists in 64 games an impressive tally given his record of ten goals and four assists in 39 games under Emery’s predecessor Steven Gerrard.

It means the striker is almost a shoo-in to be a part of England’s squad at Euro 2024 and has been receiving praise left right and centre, and justifiably so.

Vink has now added his praise, hailing the Aston Villa striker and one particular attribute he believes is “phenomenal”.

“He’s a sensation,” MSN report him saying on Voetbalpraat.

“All strikers should look at the runs that man makes. It is so phenomenal how he gets free from his defender in a very small space.

You have players who volunteer, they don’t get the ball and then they jog back into position. But he volunteers, doesn’t get the ball and within two seconds he is five meters away from you.

“If you have players like Tielemans and McGinn there, they really give him a hand. And he only needs a split second to shoot on goal.”
