Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak stance amid Chelsea interest

Newcastle United reportedly have no intention of selling Alexander Isak this summer, but the Magpies have already taken steps to protect his value with a monster price tag

Newcastle United are set to slap a hefty price tag on star striker Alexander Isak should any clubs attempt to pry him away from St James’ Park.

Chelsea reportedly made an enquiry about the Swedish star on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail, but Newcastle have made it clear that Isak is not for sale. The player himself has also dismissed rumours of a move at the end of last season.

Arsenal have shown interest in the striker for some time, but have yet to meet Newcastle’s valuation. The Magpies’ chiefs could value Isak at over £200m, meaning Chelsea would need to break their previous transfer record of £115m, paid for Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Isak ended last season as Newcastle’s top scorer with 23 goals, bringing his total tally to 35 since his £63m move to the Magpies. Talks have already begun about extending his contract with a new and improved deal, despite his current contract running until 2028, reports Chronicle Live.

Since joining from Real Sociedad, Isak has overcome injury issues and proved he can handle the pressures of the Premier League and being Newcastle’s main man. If Callum Wilson departs St James’ Park this summer, following an enquiry from West Ham last week, Isak is likely to be the frontrunner for the coveted No. 9 shirt.

When questioned last spring about a possible move away from Newcastle, Isak responded: “I don’t want to entertain these type of questions and rumours. It’s not my position. I love playing, we have important games, there’s no focus [on my future], I just want to do good for the team.”

As yet, there has been no official response from either Newcastle or Chelsea concerning the reported enquiry for the forward.
