Championship transfer news from CoventryLive as Jerry Yates and Macaulay Langstaff appear to be on the move, months after being linked with the Sky Blues
A striker who was linked with Coventry City last summer is set for another move, just 12 months on from joining one of the Sky Blues’ Championship rivals.
Former Blackpool marksman Jerry Yates was on City’s radar this time last year after netting 15 times in a struggling second tier side in 2022/23, sparking plenty of interest in the 27-year-old. Mark Robins, however, opted to sign Ellis Simms from Everton, followed shortly afterwards by Haji Wright from Turkish side Antalyaspor – the pair bagging 38 goals between them (19 apiece) in all competitions.
Yates, meanwhile, signed for Swansea City for a reported £2.5m, but failed to hit his previous season’s heights, scoring eight league goals and one in the FA Cup. Now, just a year into his three year deal at the Liberty Stadium, Yates is ‘set’ to join newly-promoted Derby County on loan
It’s not yet clear if the Rams will have any option or obligation to buy placed into the deal but the report says the move is likely to be completed in the next few days, with the Swans understood to be working hard on bringing another striker through the door over the coming weeks.
One man who has been strongly linked is another striker who has been linked with interest from the Sky Blues in the past, Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff, who was understood to have been looked at by City scouts ahead of last January’s transfer window.
Swans’ boss Luke Williams is said to like the 27-year-old, largely due to their time together at Meadow Lane. However, several other clubs have been linked with his services, the most recent being Championship rivals Millwall who, according to the South London Press, has been the subject of a formal bid for the striker who scored 29 goals last season for the League Two side, following up from an incredible 42 while in the National League the year before.
