Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was spotted in a walking boot in Mexico, with fans of the franchise concerned about his health heading into the 2024 NFL season
Dallas Cowboys fans are transitioning from anticipation to worry as the 2024 NFL season looms, after spotting star quarterback Dak Prescott wearing a surgical boot. The picture has cast a cloud over hopes for the forthcoming season, with fans on tenterhooks awaiting official confirmation about Prescott’s health, preferentially downplaying the issue.
A shot of Prescott recognisable by his muscular build and distinct tattoo on the right calf showed him sporting a supportive boot on that same foot. Prescott was seemingly in the company of his suspected partner Sarah Jane Ramos who held a flashy clear neon backpack complimenting her holiday attire.
The duo were seen at a marina in Los Cabos, surrounded by no less than seven boats, one named “Cabo San Lucas” and yet another tagged “La Paloma.” The initial word of Prescott’s condition came via a Mexico-based NFL reporter, fuelling wide-ranging conjecture.
Still, the Cowboys have opted to keep quiet regarding possible injuries, piling on the pressure for an official statement as the new season is fast approaching. Word has spread about a continuous foot sprain even though reports from the vacation venue imply that Prescott seemed to be moving without difficulty despite the boot.
Finally, he has soothed concerns about his foot condition, stating that the boot is merely precautionary following a prior ankle fracture in 2020 on the same foot. Prescott suffered a right ankle injury in the third quarter of a 2020 match against the New York Giants, but despite this setback, Dallas clinched a 34-27 victory.
The incident unfolded during a no-huddle shotgun play on first down when Prescott dashed through the heart of the Giants’ defense and was brought down by Logan Ryan’s tackle, which resulted in his injury. Ever since that fateful day, the Cowboys’ star quarterback has been spotted wearing a protective boot during the offseason for maintenance purposes, a routine he’s maintained since 2020.
Addressing the media, Prescott shared, “The same ankle, same issues. The last time I went deep sea fishing, my [ankle] swole up,” adding confidently, “I’m great.”
Last season, Prescott’s performance was nothing short of stellar, as he threw for 4,516 yards with an impressive completion rate of 69.5 percent. He topped the league with 36 touchdowns and kept interceptions low at just nine.
Boasting a passer rating of 105.9, he also achieved the longest pass completion of the season. In a moment that showcased his powerful arm and quick thinking, Prescott, while boxed in by safety players, pulled off a flawless pump fake before stepping forward and hurling a 92-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb down the right flank, securing a 6-3 lead for the Cowboys in their game against the Detroit Lions.
In 2021, Prescott signed a staggering four-year contract extension with Dallas worth $160 million (£127m), with a guaranteed $126 million (£100m). This monumental deal, which included a no-trade clause and a no-tag provision, cemented Prescott’s position as the cornerstone of the franchise.
After the 2024 season, if a new deal with the team doesn’t materialise, Prescott will become an unrestricted free agent. The Cowboys, having already used the franchise tag on him twice, can’t use it again, leaving his future in Dallas both uncertain and full of potential once the offseason arrives.
