Abada on verge of Celtic transfer exit as £11m Charlotte FC outlay

Charlotte FC could pay up £11m in total but £3m of that is conditional and 20 per cent of the sell-on will go to his former club.

Celtic are on the verge of agreeing the £8million sale of Liel Abada to Charlotte FC.

The deal could see the Hoops claim another £3m in future add-ons. The MLS outfit are also ready to hand Abada a designated player spot and a four-year contract to seal the deal. The 22-year-old is in now waiting for the two clubs to finalise the deal and to get permission to travel for his medical.

It is likely to bring an end to a difficult situation for Abada and Celtic. He hasn’t played for Brendan Rodgers in recent weeks because of the recent troubles back in his homeland. The situation has also been added to by elements of the Celtic support who have flown flags and shown their support for Palestine. It has seen Abada come under pressure from his homeland.

The winger signed a new four-year deal back in September but has been left in limbo in recent weeks. The pending American move should see Celtic make a significant profit on the fee they paid to Maccabi Petah Tikva back in 2021. The Israeli side are also due a sell-on, which is believed to be around 20 per cent.
