Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant moved up another all-time list in tonight’s win against the Denver Nuggets, surpassing Dirk Nowitzki for 17th all-time in 3-pointers made.
Durant entered tonight needing to make three 3-pointers to pass Nowitzki, and he did exactly that. He now has 1,983 3-pointers compared to Nowitzki’s 1,982. Jason Kidd sits only five 3-pointers ahead of Durant, so he could surpass Kidd for the 16th spot in the next couple games. Once he passes Kidd, he will be behind Suns’ teammate Eric Gordon, who reached 2,000 career triples just last game.
n overtime, Durant scored eight of the Suns’ 15 points, including two triples and the final one to ice the game with 49 seconds left. He finished with 35 points on 3-of-8 shooting from deep, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks, as the Suns (36-26) got a much needed 117-107 victory.
Durant now has 28,427 career points, sitting 169 points behind Shaquille O’Neal for eighth-most all-time. Averaging 27.9 points per game this season, Durant will likely pass O’Neale in the next 6-7 games.
Nowitzki set the bar for shooting bigs like Durant and now he passes him, as Durant nears 2,000 career triples. Durant is now the NBA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers among players 6-foot-10 or taller.
