Tottenham rule out star player for extended period

Tottenham star Ryan Sessegnon will miss the rest of the season after undergoing hamstring surgery in another “devastating” blow to his careersources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old had an operation on his right hamstring on Monday of last week (26 February) after suffering the latest in a series of muscle injuries while playing against West Ham for Spurs’ under-21s on 17 February.

This was the second time Sessegnon had been forced into the operating room in the past 12 months, but the previous surgery in July was on his left hamstring.

It is believed that Tottenham do not expect the Englishman to be involved in first-team action again this season and he is now expected to return for pre-season.

Sessegnon will need a lengthy rest and rehabilitation period, and his comeback is pencilled in for the 2024-25 campaign.

The former Fulham sensation has made just one senior appearance this season – a late substitute outing in Spurs’ 1-0 FA Cup win against Burnley in January.

He made regular appearances in the first half of last season under Antonio Conte, but his initial hamstring setback forced him to the sidelines in mid-February.

Across 57 appearances for Tottenham since his reported £25million move from the Cottagers in 2019, he has bagged three goals and four assists.
