Prior to their last night 114-108 home win against the Miami Heat, Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks have toiled to win against playoff candidates.

The result came despite Doncic coming up with 30+ points and multiple back-to-back triple-doubles.

Luka Doncic had averaged 37.5 points during the Mavs’ run of two wins in seven games. This led the former NBA legend and current sports analyst on TNT Charles Barkley to suggest he work on his off-the-ball game rather than focus mainly on scoring.

Shaquille O’Neal disagreed with his fellow co-host at that point. In making his case, he referenced the GOAT, Michael Jordan’s career, pointing out the fact that his scoring numbers weren’t affected while leading the Chicago Bulls to NBA championships. He said:

The Mavericks currently sit 8th on the Western Conference standings and with 19 games left in the regular season, the coaching staff needs to find a balance that would translate Doncic’s high-scoring games into wins. Because at the end of the day, it’s the wins that count.

Luka Doncic records another 30+ point triple-double as it counts this time

Doncic was on fire as he led the Dallas Mavericks to a 114-108 home win against the Miami Heat, thus ending their three-game loss streak. As expected, the league’s leading scorer led the player’s statistics chart with 35 points and 11 rebounds and assists.

His fifth triple-double in a row. This time it mattered as the Mavs finally won a fellow post-season challenger. Regular partner-in-crime, Kyrie Irving notched 23 points and four assists and rebounds.

Fans of the Dallas Mavericks would take a sigh of relief as they hope to banish the ghost of last season, which saw their team miss out on the postseason. Their next game sees them travel to the Little Caesars Arena to face the Detroit Pistons.
