Leeds United: Sheffield Wednesday star salute Leeds

Sheffield Wednesday star Marvin Johnson was spotted doing the Leeds United salute after a 2-0 Championship defeat to the Whites on Friday (8 March).

The defender was up against Wilfried Gnonto during a much-needed victory for the Whites, which left the Owls in the relegation zone on 38 points.

At the other end of the table, Leeds moved within two points of league leaders Leicester City, leapfrogging Ipswich Town ahead of their respective matches against Hull City and Cardiff City.

James Kay, a Wednesday fan, took to X on Saturday (9 March), posting the image of Johnson’s Leeds salute with the caption: “Two weeks wages for me this, embarrassing”.

Leeds United claim vital 2-0 victory at Hillsborough

It is crunch time for Daniel Farke’s side now, with the title chase truly heating up alongside Leicester and Ipswich. With just three points separating the top three sides, anything could happen in the final matches.

The Whites will be hoping to have their future in their own hands, which could be a very real prospect if either the Foxes or the Tractor Boys slip up.

Wednesday presented as a potential banana skin for Leeds on Friday, with the Owls coming into the match in form, claiming five victories in their last six matches. Despite this, Farke and his team were always favourites.

The promotion hopefuls showed exactly why they are closing in on the top two spots in the Championship, as Patrick Bamford and Gnonto condemned Danny Rohl to a 2-0 defeat.

Marvin, who had been handed the duty of marking the latter, could only watch on as Gnonto smashed home a delightful goal for Leeds’ second on the night, securing all three points.
