Tottenham sold for just £30m was just as good as David Silva

Kyle Walker has been discussing his time at Tottenham and had some words of praise for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.

Walker signed for Spurs all the way back in 2009 before going on to sign for Manchester City for £50m in 2017.

Walker has since gone on to become one of the best right-backs in world football and has now won five Premier League titles as well as every other trophy in the domestic game.

Of course, being at City, Walker is used to playing with world-class players. But looking back at his time with Tottenham, Walker has admitted that the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale were on a different level.

Kyle Walker on Luka Modric and Gareth Bale

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel with Rio Ferdinand, Walker admitted that Modric and Bale were just incredible at times.

“Luka yeah because he was incredible. Incredible. You pass him the ball in tight areas, he was like David [Silva]. You pass him a bad ball he makes it look like a good ball. Gaz, probably not. When I first went back down, he’s my age but he’s telling me he’s going to Nottingham Forest on loan. So he’s like I’m going,” Walker said.

“Next minute he’s tearing it up at the San Siro. Gaz just went through, everything he hit that season just went in the back of the net, it was just incredible. I’ve seen goal scorers now like I’ve seen H [Harry Kane] and Erling, but everything he hit no matter where from it went in the back of the net. I think the goals for Real Madrid and the trophies he’s won says it all. Tottenham wasn’t going for the title but he kept us up there.”

Modric was sold for £30m to Real Madrid, while Bale fetched a whopping £85m.

Kyle Walker is in that bracket now

Walker has come a long way from being a young man at Tottenham in awe of those players but he is now one of the players others will speak about in that fashion.

Having done so well for England and Man City, Walker has to be considered one of the very best players to ever step foot in the Premier League, especially defensively.

If he can make it six Premier League titles this year and finally see off Liverpool at Anfield, something else he spoke about on this pod, then it will round off a remarkable career really.
