Leicester City came from behind twice on Saturday afternoon to retain their three-point lead at the top of the league after a 2-2 draw with Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
Fabio Carvalho struck first to put the Tigers ahead despite Mads Hermansen saving his effort from the penalty spot 10 minutes beforehand. But, the Foxes were awarded a penalty of their own which Jamie Vardy dispatched to ensure things were level at the break.
Anass Zaroury then put the hosts back in front on the hour mark, though Vardy bagged his second of the match two minutes later to level things once more and secure a point for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Despite Vardy’s brace, and the two goals conceded, it was Leicester shot stopper Hermansen who gained plenty of the plaudits for his performance.
The Danish goalkeeper made five saves against the Tigers, including Carvalho’s aforementioned penalty attempt. On top of that, he remained nifty with the ball at his feet as he played a huge part in the Foxes taking a point back to the East Midlands.
Leicestershire reporter Jordan Blackwell handed the 23-year-old an 8/10 rating following his efforts against Hull, the joint highest from the Leicester squad alongside Abdul Fatawu. He wrote this:
“His pre-match preparations paid off to help him save Carvalho’s penalty, and he dealt really well with some awkward balls back to him, rushing out quickly to save Fatawu on one occasion. He had to lump it forward more than he would have liked though.”
Heroic Hermansen
Having signed from Brondby in the summer, Hermansen has been exceptional for the Foxes this season, highlighting exactly what they had been missing in their previous season which saw them relegated from the Premier League.
Not only is he comfortable with the ball at his feet, but he has proved to be an excellent shot stopper too. He looks to have been well worth the money that Maresca’s men splashed on him at the beginning of the campaign.
In 36 appearances for Leicester City in the Championship this season, the Denmark U21 international has recorded 12 clean sheets and conceded just 33 goals. He surely can’t be too far away from making his senior international bow.
The capture of Hermansen has so far proved to be an excellent piece of business, and a few more eyes are bound to be cast on him next term should the Foxes seal their return to the top flight.
