‘He Is One Of The Best.. Sherwood Lauds £43m Tottenham Star

Tim Sherwood was sure to give Micky van de Ven his flowers following Tottenham’s thumping 4-0 win at 10-man Aston Villa on Sunday, including how he left Ollie Watkins shocked.

The only disappointment coming from that game was the injury to Micky van de Ven.

Minutes into the second half, he was forced off with a hamstring injury and has worried the Tottenham fans that he could spend some time on the sidelines.

Tim Sherwood thinks Micky van de Ven has been ‘one of the best centre-halves’ in the Premier League this season, as his stock continues to grow under Ange Postecoglou.

But it’s just ‘unfortunate’ he keeps suffering these hamstring issues and ‘he is going to have time on the sidelines again’, as he told Premier League Productions (11/03/24 at 5:35 pm).

No diagnosis has been delivered yet, but with 11 games of the season remaining for Spurs, Ange Postecoglou’s men can’t afford this to be another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The one positive is that the international break is around the corner, so it will allow Micky van de Ven time to recover.

But Tim Sherwood did joke that the £43 million signing will return for Tottenham’s north London derby clash against Arsenal on April 27.

Micky van de Ven’s injury

“At the moment, he is one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League,” said Sherwood.

“It’s just unfortunate that he keeps getting this hamstring injury. But when you are that quick, I never had that problem because I never was, this guy is going to get hamstring problems because of the pace of him. He is like a sprinter.

“Look at him, the pace to get back in there, it’s incredible. Ollie (Watkins) can’t believe he has come from nowhere there.

“Now he is going to have time on the sidelines again, and they are going to miss him – he will be back for the north London derby, that’s all he is worried about,” joked Sherwood.

Radu Dragusin makes a positive impact

The January capture was introduced into the action after van de Ven’s injury and James Maddison proceeded to score straightaway, before Spurs pounced on an Aston Villa error and doubled their lead in next to no time.

Radu Dragusin proved to be a lucky charm from the bench for his side, and despite picking up a yellow card, he looked rather impressive over the weekend.

The Romanian star got rave reviews for his performance and he will now be needed a lot more as Postecoglou looks towards a top-four finish.

Spurs are two points behind Villa, with a better goal difference and a game in hand, with the duo in Premier League action at the weekend, as the FA Cup takes centre stage.

Before Villa can lock horns with West Ham United on the Sunday, their Champions League rivals face Fulham on Saturday evening knowing three points will take them to fourth.
