One of the most treasured players in NFL history is Jason Kelce, and a former Falcons third-round pick may be his replacement.
The brother of Travis Kelce isn’t dating the most famous woman in the world (Taylor Swift) but became America’s sweetheart in the blink of an eye. Even quicker than he became a national treasure, he retired from professional football as one of the greatest centers in league history.
And the Eagles signed Matt Hennessy, a former third-round pick for the Falcons, to potentially replace him, according to PHLY’s Zach Berman.
There was a legitimate chance that Hennessy would’ve started next to Drew Dalman and Jake Matthews in 2023, but a leg injury ended his season, paving the way for rookie Matthew Bergeron, who started all 17 games.
A third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Temple, Hennessy started all 17 games in 2021 but was limited to just 11 games in 2022.
Though he’s probably not expected to immediately replace Jason Kelce, Hennessy will provide the Eagles with a valuable swing interior lineman, capable of playing all three interior spots.
Still, there’s an outside shot the former Falcons lineman will succeed one of the greatest centers of all time.
