A journalist in Argentina has hit out at two colleagues at Daily Record today after the Glasgow based newspaper and website published an entirely misleading headline about Celtic player Alexandro Bernabei.
Alexandro Bernabei couldn’t WAIT to leave Celtic as he targets Brazilian revival to show Rodgers what he’s missing
The sub-heading reads:
Bernabei is loving life at International after leaving Celtic on loan earlier this month, implying perhaps he was NOT loving life at Celtic? The article carries credits for two writers Mark Walker and Robbie Copeland who is described as Live Sports Writer.
If you take the anti-Celtic spin out of the story then simply look at the quotes that the Record have used from Bernabei then try to make sense of that headline.
I really wanted to come back and feel what South American football is all about again. Wearing this Internacional shirt gives me a lot of emotion and adrenaline. Knowing what this club means makes me want to get going and make an impression here.
“When I heard about Internacional wanting me, I wanted to come here. When it comes to my football assets, I am fast, I cross the ball well and show a lot of motivation and aggression. But you will see that where it matters…on the pitch. I am going to give everything to the cause this season.” Alexandro Bernabei
That’s it. Where does it say that Bernabei couldn’t wait to leave Celtic?
Where does it say that he’s out to show Brendan Rodgers what he’s missing?
And that’s exactly why the Daily Record’s headline has been called out by a fellow journalist from Argentina, Alexandro Bernardo’s homeland. Seba Ongarelli took to social media to make his point. He said:
“I don’t usually get involved on these things. Berna didn’t play as expected even for me but this is a completely lie.
They just want to create a problem where there isn’t one. Shame of journalism at Daily Record.”
Among the responses a Celtic supporter had this to say:
Whatever the motivation, some are saying it’s just click-bait, but there seems little doubt that the editorial standards at a once highly respected Scottish newspaper have slipped dramatically, alongside the paper’s circulation. When was the last time you bought a copy of the Daily Record?
