The Crystal Palace search for a Michael Olise replacement has taken them to Brazil, for a transfer battle against both Chelsea and Tottenham.
This summer Crystal Palace are expected to lose Michael Olise, with the superbly talented winger being chased by Manchester United.
Losing such a pivotal piece in the puzzle would be a tough one to take for Oliver Glasner, as he’d likely have been excited to have a player of that quality in the team.
However, it seems that the club aren’t waiting around for Olise to leave and instead are scouring the globe searching for the perfect replacement.
This search has taken Palace to Brazil with Internacional’s Mauricio being named as a target, although the Eagles will have to battle Spurs and Chelsea for the signature of the £10.2m valued ace – as per Vozes do Gigante.
To gain a greater insight into the Brazilian, We Are Palace have spoken with Brazilian football expert Rogerio Amaral Junior who has shared his view on the right-sided winger.
Who is Crystal Palace target Mauricio?
Speaking exclusively with We Are Palace, Rogerio gave an overview of the situation around the 22-year-old, even explaining he’s no stranger to Palace part-owner, John Textor.
“Mauricio is a highly desired midfielder in Brazilian football. Palmeiras and Botafogo (also John Textor’s team) have already shown interest in signing him. But Internacional did not agree to negotiate as they hope to profit more from a direct transfer to Europe.”
Continuing, he explains what kind of player Mauricio is, in doing so making him sound as though he’d be perfect in the right-sided number 10 position.
“Mauricio is a very creative midfielder, he usually plays more open on the right side, but he doesn’t have the speed of a winger. He has a good pass success rate (88%) and always tries to pass to players who are ahead.
“He’s not such a dribbling player, but he has the ability to play 1 vs 1. He’s a dangerous player when he’s close to the box, as he has a good shot as well as the good vision to find a teammate better positioned to finish.”
Finally, Rogerio added that Mauricio is a player he thinks has what it takes to be in the Premier League.
“I believe he has the necessary intensity to play in the Premier League, he is a player who adapts quickly to changes in schemes.”
Mauricio could be an excellent pick-up
With all this information, it seems pretty clear that assuming he isn’t expensive, Mauricio could be an incredible signing with a high upside.
But for as highly recommended as he comes, singing from the Brazilian league can be very hit-and-miss, given how different the leagues are.
But Palace will be handed confidence by the fact Mauricio comes from an impressive youth background, with players from his academy on fire in Europe right now.
Rogerio explained: “Formed at the base of Desportivo Brasil, a club dedicated only to revealing athletes. It has already been revealed (Bremmer – Juventus, Ederson – Atalanta, Rodrigo Muniz – Fulham).”
Muniz has been impressive for Fulham this season while the two Serie A stars have been linked with Manchester United.
