Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez is linked with summer switch.
Aston Villa have reportedly expressed an interest in Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez ahead of the summer transfer window.
Spanish outlet Sport claim that Premier League clubs including Villa and Everton are admirers of Lopez, who made his La Liga debut earlier this season under Xavi. The 20-year-old has scored three goals 22 league appearances and has featured 32 times for Barca across all competitions.
He has also scored two goals in the Champions League after playing in six of the club’s eight European fixtures this term. However, Lopez has only started seven La Liga games this campaign and faces a tough task to dislodge either Pedri or Gavi, who are 21 and 19 years old respectively.
It has led to reports claiming that Villa are among the teams tracking Lopez as he approaches the crucial years of his development. Sport add that he is settled at Barcelona and is only concentrated on succeeding there despite interest mounting elsewhere.
In August 2023, Lopez reached an agreement with Barca to commit his future to the Catalan club until June 30, 2027. His deal includes a huge release clause of €400m.
Villa reduced the average age of their squad in January following the arrivals of Morgan Rogers and Joe Gauci. Lino Sousa and Kosta Nedeljkovic will both link up with Emery’s first-team squad in the summer after their loan moves in the second half of this season.
