Newcastle United have now learned how much they will have to pay this summer to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokerese has been in incredible form for the Portuguese club, sparking a lot of interest from some big European clubs and Newcastle don’t want to miss out on the talented striker.

Although it was initially believed whoever wanted him would have to pay the £85m release clause, a new report from Gazzetta dello Sport now claim that the price has been dropped.

Newcastle given huge boost in Gyokeres pursuit

Newcastle are very much in the market for a new striker with Callum Wilson pretty much expected to leave the club in the next window if they can get a decent fee for him.

However, their budget likely wouldn’t have allowed for them to spend £85m on one player when there are a number of areas which Eddie Howe would like to improve on in the summer.

So, the news that Gyokeres’ price has been slashed will be welcomed by Newcastle, and it’s understood that Sporting could be willing to do a deal for around £43m.

The 25-year-old has scored 36 goals already this season as well as providing 14 assists in what has been a really incredible campaign since he joined from Coventry.

This price is sure to attract more potential suitors for the striker, but Newcastle will back themselves to make a strong case to bring him to Tyneside.

Newcastle want Swedish duo to lead the attack

While Gyokeres has been impressing over in Portugal, his Swedish teammate Alexander Isak has proved to be one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League in the last two years.

The pair feature regularly together for the national team despite both playing as a sole striker for their respective clubs and it could be something Newcastle could consider for the future.

After all, it’s unlikely that either Gyokeres or Isak would be happy being the back up option for the other, so perhaps playing them together would be an ideal solution for Newcastle.

Bringing both Swedish internationals to the club would be a huge coup for Newcastle who could form one of the most dangerous attacks in Europe with Anthony Gordon also in great form.
