Patrick Bamford flops in 2/10

Leeds United were unable to take full advantage of Leicester City’s unexpected loss to Bristol City as they drew 2-2 with Watford at Vicarage Road on Friday (29 March).

Crysencio Summerville netted a Goal of the Season contender but Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Emmanuel Dennis scored either side of his stunner with Mateo Joseph scoring a late equaliser to rescue a point for Leeds.

The Whites will have been disappointed with the draw and failing to retake their spot at the top of the Championship, especially after Leicester City unexpectedly lost 1-0 to Bristol City on Friday.

MOT Leeds News rated each Leeds player out of 10 below…

Ethan Ampadu disappoints in rare poor Leeds United performance

Illan Meslier – 7

Produced some key saves despite conceding twice – needed his defenders to act much quicker. Scoreline could have been far worse without the Frenchman’s intervention.

Sam Byram – 6

Did well to support Summerville down the left flank, as well as protect his defence against Yaser Asprilla. Maintained a steady performance at full-back, keeping a 100 per cent tackle success (5/5)

Liam Cooper (Off for Junior Firpo 63′) – 4

It was clear that Leeds missed the formidable partnership of Ampadu and Rodon in defence, with Daniel Farke handing the Scot his first league start since 1st January.

Joe Rodon – 6

Was solid as ever in defence, making one extremely important tackle to keep the Whites from going further behind. A true leader at the back, doing everything possible to push Leeds forward.

Archie Gray – 5

A very quiet performance by Gray’s standards. Attacking impact hindered by Watford’s Bayo for most of the night.

Ethan Ampadu – 4

Not his finest performance in Leeds colours. Lucky not to give away a penalty in the first half, nearly gave away a goal after conceding possession in midfield. Major improvement after the shift into midfield.

Glen Kamara – 6

The Finland international did his best to hold down the midfield, with Ampadu suffering a rare poor performance. Barely misplaced a pass and disrupted the opposition’s flow in the middle of the park.

Crysencio Summerville scores award-winning contender v Watford

Crysencio Summerville – 8

Summerville’s beautiful moment from outside the Watford box was a moment of genius, getting his side back into the game after conceding the opener.

Dan James – 4

Relatively ineffective on the wing. Most of the forward play came down Summerville’s side, leaving James without much to do throughout the game.

Georginio Rutter (Off for Joel Piroe 74′) – 5

Quiet night for Rutter. Maybe in need of catching up on match sharpness after returning from hernia surgery over the international break. Tried some efforts from long range but was not as involved as Leeds needed.

Patrick Bamford – 2

Bamford was an extremely lonely figure throughout the match, failing to make any meaningful connections with James, Rutter or Summerville. Made several runs in behind but nobody looked for him.

Substitutes

Junior Firpo (On for Liam Cooper 63′) – 5

With Summerville so dominant on the wing, Firpo was ineffective as a substitute. Brought on for fresh legs as well as giving the team an ability to shuffle positions.

Joel Piroe (On for Georginio Rutter 74′) – N/A

Jaidon Anthony (On for Sam Byram 84′) – 7

Should have scored the winner for the Whites, denied by Daniel Bachmann from close range.

Mateo Joseph (On for Glen Kamara 84′) – 9

Brought on as a substitute, hoping to save Leeds’ blushes. Poked home the equaliser moments after coming on, doing exactly what was needed of him.
