There were no Eastern Conference games scheduled on Sunday.

TONIGHT’S SCHEDULE & WHO TO ROOT FOR

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers – 7 p.m. (Stream on ESPN+)

  • Sabres fans should root for Pittsburgh

The Penguins (32-30-11) are tied with the Sabres seven points out of the final playoff spot but have played two fewer games. They open a three-game road trip against the Rangers, who enter Monday with a one-point lead in the Presidents’ trophy race.

New York Islanders at Philadelphia Flyers – 7 p.m. (Stream on ESPN+)

  • Sabres fans should root for New York

The Flyers (36-29-10) have lost five of their last six games to slip out of a top-three position in the Metropolitan Division and into the second wild card spot. Philadelphia and Washington both have 82 points, but Washington is ahead on points percentage having played two fewer games.

The Islanders (31-27-15) remain in the race even after a 4-1 loss in Tampa on Saturday but are within closer proximity for the Sabres in terms of both points and points percentage. Root for them to win in regulation, then lose Tuesday when they host the Blackhawks.

Detroit Red Wings at Tampa Bay Lightning – 7 p.m. (Stream on ESPN+)

  • Sabres fans should root for Tampa Bay

The Lightning (41-25-7) are inching closer toward locking up the top wild card with an 8-1-1 mark in their last 10 games, now seven points ahead of the Flyers. They need just one point for the Sabres to no longer be able to mathematically catch them.

The Red Wings (36-30-8), meanwhile, remain in the thick of the race for the second wild card despite having lost their last four games (0-2-2).
