Eddie Howe will be forced to name changes to his Newcastle United starting XI for Tuesday night’s Premier League clash against Everton (kick-off 7:30pm).
The Magpies came from 3-1 down to beat West Ham United 4-3 on Saturday afternoon after braces from Alexander Isak and substitute Harvey Barnes cancelled out goals from Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen.
However, the victory, which saw United move to eighth in the table one behind the Hammers in seventh, came at some cost with three fresh injury injuries and a suspension blow.
As confirmed by Newcastle, Jamaal Lascelles suffered an ACL injury just 16 minutes in and joins teammate Sven Botman in being ruled out for six to nine months. Howe is also awaiting further news on Tino Livramento (ankle) and Miguel Almiron (knee) after both withdrew in the second-half at the week.
Another player United will definitely be without is Anthony Gordon. The England international won both of Isak’s penalties and set up Barnes’ winner before being shown a second yellow card during stoppage time for kicking the ball away.
He will serve a one-match ban against his former club, forcing him to miss only his second Premier League match this campaign.
With a number of players set to be unavailable against Everton, NewcastleWorld predicts the starting XI Howe will name:
1. GK: Martin Dubravka
The Slovakian has conceded 39 goals this campaign after seeing another three go past him against West Ham on Saturday.
2. RB: Kieran Trippier (in for Tino Livramento)
Trippier has missed the last three matches with a calf injury but is edging closer to a return. If not fit, then you suspect Emil Krafth will get the nod.
3. CB: Fabian Schar
Schar is usually Newcastle’s Mr Consistent but his performance have been very and up down of late, perhaps reflecting the form of the team.
4. CB: Dan Burn
The devastating injury to Jamaal Lascelles will likely see Dan Burn have a run of games at centre-back after playing the last two years at left-back.
5. LB: Lewis Hall (in for Jamaal Lascelles)
Is this Hall’s chance to shine? He’ll be looking to build on two impressive cameos against Manchester City and West Ham. Would be his first start since November.
6. CM: Bruno Guimaraes
The Brazilian wasn’t always at his fluent best against West Ham but did everything he could to drag Newcastle back into the game.
7. CM: Sean Longstaff
The Geordie midfielder looks zapped of confidence but his effort can’t be faulted as he plays through a foot injury.
8. CM: Joe Willock
Willock still looks like he needs a run of games in order to regain full match sharpness. But an improvement is needed with Elliot Anderson breathing down his neck.
9. RW: Jacob Murphy
Howe would usually decided between Murphy or Miguel Almiron but with the latter a doubt for the game, the decision has been made for him.
10. LW: Harvey Barnes (in for Anthony Gordon)
With Anthony Gordon suspended, Barnes will have an opportunity to build on his two-goal heroics against West Ham.
11. ST: Alexander Isak
Isak’s brace against West Ham took his goalscoring tally to 18 for the season.
