Leeds United midfielder scouted by European elite

Leeds United starlet Archie Gray was watched by scouts from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich against Hull City on Monday, according to HITC.

Leeds United have seen academy graduate Gray become one of their most regular starters this season. He only turned 18 last month, but the youngster has played 43 times across all competitions, including 35 Championship starts.

Gray was in Daniel Farke’s XI again on Monday night as the Whites secured another valuable win, beating Hull City. They emerged 3-1 victors on the night with their teenage prospect back in midfield after an extended spell at right-back.

Now, it has been said that some of Europe’s elite were there to watch Gray in action.

HITC claims that Spanish giants Real Madrid and German titans Bayern Munich both had scouts in attendance to watch the Leeds United midfielder. They’re among those closely watching the teenager but the second-tier promotion hopefuls maintain that there is no plan to cash in on Gray this summer.

A rise to the Premier League would be a big hand in their bid to retain his services.

Inevitable interest

Gray has already been at the centre of plenty of transfer speculation and Leeds United won’t be expecting it to quiet down any time soon. In fact, as the summer moves closer and closer, rumours will likely become even more frequent.

It’s no surprise that top clubs are taking an interest. Football’s elite should be more than aware of an 18-year-old who has nailed down a starting spot at a high level, so Real Madrid and Bayern Munich’s scouting trip doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

What remains to be seen though is if either look to advance their admiration. Time will tell if anything comes of that in the summer, with clubs sure to be keen on prizing Gary away from the Whites.

For now though, the Championship side and their top starlet will be fully focused on the bid to return to the Premier League.
