Arsenal and Newcastle United have both been linked with Porto star Evanilson.
Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to Portugal to watch Newcastle United-linked Porto star Evanilson play against Estoril. However, the trip didn’t go as planned, as his team lost 1-0 in a match full of drama.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has made it clear that he wants to strengthen his team at both ends of the pitch when the season ends. They are considering Ajax’s Jorrel Hato and Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande for defence.
The club is also planning to spend a lot on a top striker. Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are among those being linked with a move to Arsenal’s home ground, the Emirates Stadium, at the end of the season.
However, Arsenal haven’t decided on their main target yet and will look at all options. This is why they are keeping an eye on Porto’s young player, Evanilson.
According to HITC, Arsenal had people at the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota to watch the Brazilian play for Porto against Estoril. But the 24-year-old didn’t make a big impact on the game, with Cassiano scoring the only goal for the home team, reports the Express.
Evanilson has netted 22 goals in 35 games this season, but his performance against Estoril wasn’t his best, with Porto losing their cool early in the match in a fiery game that saw the referee give out 12 yellow cards and four reds.
The Gunners are hoping to use their connections in Portugal to secure a deal for Evanilson if they decide to make a move. Arsenal have been keeping an eye on the Liga Portugal over the past few seasons, with Sporting pair Diomande and Viktor Gyokeres on their list of potential targets in the league.
Arsenal aren’t the only ones who admire the high-scoring forward, as Newcastle were also at Porto’s last match. With Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson drawing a lot of attention ahead of the summer transfer window, the Magpies are looking at possible replacements.
Evanilson’s performances are likely to have caught the eye of clubs around Europe as well, with the striker market expected to be very busy this summer. Many top clubs are predicted to make big changes to their frontline before next season.
