The New York Jets had very little to offer in the wide receiver room last season outside of their young star Garrett Wilson, and improving that position ahead of Aaron Rodgers’ return was a major priority this offseason.
The Jets signed Mike Williams to be their No. 2 receiver from the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year deal worth up to $15 million, but they may not be done there.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, Washington WR Rome Odunze has a top 30 visit with the Jets on Wednesday ahead of the NFL Draft.
The Jets have the 10th pick in the draft and Odunze is the consensus third wide receiver on the board behind LSU’s Malik Nabers and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.
Odunze shined last season with the National Champion runner-up Washington Huskies, posting 92 catches for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns and would bring an explosiveness to the Jets offense it hasn’t had in years.
New York knows it has a short window to contend for a championship with Rodgers, who is 39 years old and rebounding from a torn Achilles, and one of the biggest knocks on his previous regime with the Green Bay Packers is that the team never drafted weapons for him early in the draft and instead relied on his talent to elevate those around him.
Odunze would give the Jets one of the league’s most dangerous wide receiver rooms, with three players all capable of destroying any defensive scheme.
Many assume the Jets will be targeting an offensive tackle with the 10th pick after signing Mike Williams, but Odunze is a special talent that may not even be available when the Jets pick.
