Predicted Newcastle team v Fulham today

Looking at this Newcastle team v Fulham. Eddie Howe and his players knowing a victory will move them up to just one points behind Man U in sixth, who play at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

Whilst with a win Newcastle will go above West Ham, who are currently seventh, if the Hammers don’t win away at Wolves today.

So what can we expect the Newcastle team v Fulham to be?

Looking at this Newcastle team v Fulham.

Eddie Howe and his players knowing a victory will move them up to just one points behind Man U in sixth, who play at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

Whilst with a win Newcastle will go above West Ham, who are currently seventh, if the Hammers don’t win away at Wolves today.

So what can we expect the Newcastle team v Fulham to be?

As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Everton:

Dubravka, Krafth, Schar, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Anderson, Murphy, Isak, Barnes

As well as the banned Sandro Tonali, due to injuries and/or ongoing recoveries, also expected to be missing were Nick Pope, Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento, Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron, Jamaal Lascelles, Sven Botman and Matt Targett.

Eddie Howe was asked on Friday morning if any of the injured players might be back for Fulham and predictably said a big fat no to that.

So we are left hoping simply that the players who were available on Tuesday night for the Everton match, are also available for Craven Cottage this afternoon. With the only (sizeable!) bonus being that Anthony Gordon returns from his one match suspension.

Eddie Howe was asked specifically about Lewis Hall who was subbed in the Everton match and he replied with ‘We hope he’s fine and that he’ll be back training. We anticipate he’ll be part of the group [for tomorrow].’

Anyway, my take on all of this after the above, my best guesstimate of Newcastle team v Fulham…

Dubravka, Krafth, Schar, Burn, Hall, Willock, Bruno, Anderson, Gordon, Isak, Barnes

So that would be two changes from the Everton match.

With Willock and Gordon coming in, Longstaff and Murphy dropping to the bench.

Assuming they are available, difficult to see any changes in defence. For sure I can’t see Eddie Howe doing so out of choice.

As for the rest of the team in midfield and attack, hopefully it is now looking as though Eddie Howe has some options, as well as a couple of alternatives on the bench for during the match changes without a serious drop off in quality.

I can’t see Anthony Gordon not coming straight back in, as he is one of our biggest attacking threats and Newcastle need to try and win this game from the first whistle.

However, I don’t see Harvey Barnes dropping down to the bench, as he has done really well this past week, both scoring goals and creating chances.

I thought Joe Willock looked sharp on Tuesday night when coming off the bench and hopefully he is now getting back towards a position of full fitness and form. When he is on top of his game then he is massive for Newcastle United, especially in away games I think, with his workrate and ability to carry the ball and create dangerous situations, as well as getting into the box.

So on balance, I see Murphy (who has done well) finding himself unlucky to be one to drop out, whilst I think the criticism of Longstaff has been so over the top. He might not have been at the top of his game but he has continued to do so much unselfish work for the team, however, having injections in his foot before every match isn’t ideal and now if Willock is back to something like full fitness, he can replicate Longstaff’s workrate as well as providing more of a threat to the opposition.
