An elite wide receiver recently made a remark about what he thought of the New York Giants quarterback situation this offseason that should ruffle the feathers of Daniel Jones. Jones is recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last season.
The New York Giants have two backup quarterbacks on the roster
The Giants brought in Drew Lock in free agency last month to compete with Jones for the starting spot this fall. However, the Giants might draft a quarterback in the first round of April’s draft. The Giants hold the No. 6 pick, and they could take a quarterback there or trade up for someone like J.J. McCarthy.
The Giants need receivers regardless of who is under center in the upcoming season. Some mock drafts have the Giants drafting a wide receiver with the No. 6 pick. LSU standout Malik Nabers is a likely prospect the Giants could select this month.
Malik Nabers thinks the Giants will “figure it out” at QB
During an interview with CBS Sports HQ, Nabers was asked what he thought about the Giants potentially drafting him. Nabers said they’d need to figure out how to find a quarterback that could get him the ball.
“I don’t know where I’m going. Going to New York, it wouldn’t be a bad idea,” Nabers said. “The quarterback situation, I know they’re going to figure it out, especially if they have a caliber receiver coming like me. They’re going to want to get me the ball, so I’m sure they’re going to want to have a quarterback that can do that.”
Nabers is clearly concerned that Jones (the answer predated Lock’s signing in March) would be a good enough quarterback to get him the ball as often as he’d like. Lock probably isn’t the answer Nabers was looking for.
For the Giants to land a quarterback good enough to throw to Nabers, they’ll probably have to use the No. 6 pick. Of course, that would mean Nabers wouldn’t be going to the Giants.
