‘Critical’ decision soon as Leeds want to seal surprise striker transfer

Leeds United have emerged as a “surprise” suitor to complete a transfer for Fenerbahce striker Michy Batshuayi, who is set to make his decision at the end of the season, according to Star.

The Turkish news outlet reported on 13 April that the plan at Fenerbahce had always been to hand the Belgian a new deal before Leeds’ interest complicated the matter.

However, with a contract now on the table for the striker, it is said that he will make his “critical” final decision at the end of the current season with Leeds paying close attention.

Leeds United to seal Michy Batshuayi transfer?

It has become clear in recent days that Leeds’ focus for the summer will be on improving their attacking options after links with Southampton forward Che Adams – and that need was made even more prominent by the loss against Blackburn.

However, despite the recognisable name thanks to his spells in the Premier League, Batshuayi’s career has been a curious one. The striker has never seemed to settle at any club despite the early signs of promise in his career.

17 goals and nine assists across 36 games for Marseille earned him the move to Chelsea, where he recorded just eight league goals in three seasons. A loan spell at Crystal Palace saw him score five goals in 11 games, but he managed just two in 18 after making the permanent switch.

His time in Turkey has been more consistent, scoring 14 goals in 33 games for Besiktas, and has now scored 21 goals in 40 games for Fenerbahce, but whether that makes him good enough for Leeds is unlikely, particularly given his age.
