This summer, Crystal Palace are in for a busy transfer window, with multiple positions requiring attention.

This will likely see a long list of requirements being drawn up ahead of this summer, a list which includes a new No. 9, despite Jean-Philippe Mateta

‘s recent form.

Mateta has been the standout performer under Glasner to date and he’s scored four in seven for Crystal Palace.

This form has even seen comparisons to Erling Haaland with his performances outclassing the Norweigan in multiple areas.

Now though, Graeme Bailey has told We Are Palace that there’s a potential new striker on the radar for this summer.

Crystal Palace targeting Thierno Barry this summer

As the transfer window draws nearer, we spoke with HITC’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey, to see who the latest Palace targets are.

The striker position needs to be strengthened this summer, with Odsonne Edouard likely heading for the exit.

“They’ve looked at him (Thierno Barry). He’s a top, top prospect. He’s on their radar.”

Thierno Barry is definitely an exciting striker and this season for Basel in the Swiss Super League, he’s bagged eight goals and four assists, along with two in the Swiss Cup.

At just 21, he’s a youngster who could absolutely improve tenfold and could be an excellent option to bolster the ranks alongside Mateta and would likely cost similar to the £13m Palace spent on the Frenchman in 2021.

What might Thierno Barry bring to Oliver Glasner’s side?

For Barry, his strengths lie in his physical traits as he uses them hand in hand with his game.

Standing at 6ft 4in, he’s an inch taller than Mateta who currently stands out as a dominant giant on the pitch at 6ft 3in.

While he’s been enjoying a decent season, it’s really exploded over the past three games with two assists and three goals in these games.

Like Mateta, he’s not only a strong goalscorer but also can act as a creative outlet for his team, with 19 chances created this season (73rd percentile), then he’s also won 40 fouls which is the 100th percentile among his positional peers in Switzerland.
