New York Jets Flight Connections 04/21/24

Good morning Gang Green Nation! Recently it was disclosed that Sauce Gardner had discussed things with Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, and they agreed Sauce would be traveling to cover the opponents’ best receiver at times going forward.

This is welcome news, though it may not have the same kind of impact that Darrelle Revis doing the same had 15 years ago. The Jets, like almost all NFL defenses these days, play more zone defense than was the case 15 years ago. Sauce would presumably only be traveling when the Jets are in man coverage. Still, this is a positive development. Sauce is a two time All Pro cornerback who could be easily avoided by opponents by merely lining up their best receiver on the other side of the field. Now, at least when the Jets are in man defense, Sauce will have the opportunity to take away the opponents’ best weapon. As good as DJ Reed has been, he’s not Sauce. Letting Sauce do his thing against the best an opponent has to offer should make the Jets’ defense that much more lethal.
