Spurs starter ruled out vs Arsenal after training injury

Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie has been ruled out for the season through injury, a week before the north London derby.

Arsenal are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby on Sunday, April 28th, and the hosts will be without starting left-back Destiny Udogie for the contest.

Udogie posted on Instagram on Saturday evening that an injury had brought his season to an early end, and Tottenham Hotspur’s official social media pages have since confirmed the details.

Spurs reported that Udogie underwent surgery to his left quadriceps, after picking up an injury in training. They added that the player is expected to rejoin the squad in pre-season.

Ben Davies is likely to start against Arsenal in Udogie’s absence.

Udogie will be unavailable for selection for Ange Postecoglou’s side against Arsenal in their next game, along with a few other absentees.

Backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster will be out with a foot injury, Ryan Sessegnon has also had surgery on a muscle injury, and Manor Solomon will be out with a knee issue.

Richarlison missed Spurs’ last two matches with a knee injury, but he should be back against Arsenal.

Postecoglou suggested that Richarlison was “close” for Spurs’ game against Newcastle United a week ago, adding that he was “on track” to recover this week.

As for Arsenal, the Gunners will be watching to see how Jurrien Timber performs for the u21s on Monday, hoping to potentially welcome him back into the fold after that.

For the time being, a return for Timber against Spurs looks unlikely. Takehiro Tomiyasu is also an uncertainty, after being left out of the game against Wolves as a precaution.

Unlike Spurs, Arsenal still have another game before the north London derby, facing Chelsea on Tuesday, so there is still the potential for further setbacks.
