Leeds United loanee praised by Rooney after defensive Everton showing

Wayne Rooney has piled praise on Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison for his defensive work rate after Everton beat Liverpool 2-0 at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

The Leeds loanee started the Merseyside Derby and was able to have a positive impact off the right flank under Sean Dyche.

Alongside Ben Godfrey, Harrison was able to shut out the advances of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in the first half. Talking on Sky Sports Main Event, former Everton man Rooney was impressed with the wide man.

He said: “Harrison, not so much with the ball but the work rate he’s put in trying to double up and help out. He helped get the fans involved and made it into a real derby.”

Should Leeds United keep Jack Harrison?

These comments from Rooney will resonate well with Leeds fans who can remember the industrious performances of Harrison.

He had a positive spell with the Whites under Marcelo Bielsa as promotion to the Premier League was secured. This included playing every Championship game as the league was won.

His form only got better as the division changed. He managed eight goals and eight assists in his first Premier League season before scoring eight and assisting one in his next, according to FotMob.

Even as Leeds were relegated last campaign, he contributed to six goals and ten assists in all competitions.

It is safe to say with stats like that he was too good for the Championship which now finds him on loan with Everton. He has three goals and assists for them this season in just 22 league starts.

With all that being said, he will certainly make a useful player should Leeds get promoted.

As Jaidon Anthony returns to Bournemouth, a wide midfielder will be necessary and Harrison could be ideal.

In other Leeds news, a Premier League regular has been told to move to Elland Road as he would be “absolutely perfect” for Daniel Farke’s side.
