On the day of the NFL Draft, Jerry Jones could be plotting a move that could see the return of a former household name.

Free agency has been a blur and Dallas Cowboys fans have probably felt like it has not even existed with their lack of movement.

America’s Team has only signed two outside free agents to the roster, whilst many familiar faces have walked.

Linebacker Erik Kendricks and running back Royce Freeman signed deals with a depleted Cowboys roster.

Dallas Cowboys set to bolster their roster with rookie starters

Today signals the day that the Cowboys will look to save their offseason.

All roads have led to the NFL Draft as the Jones’ have claimed this is the main way to build their roster.

Cheaper rookies are the instrument to balance the books as key players’ mouthwatering deals are set to consume much cap space.

Dallas Cowboys reporter Michael Gehlken posted on X last month that the prospect of Ezekiel Elliott returning was worth monitoring.

Now, Elliot could be starting talks with the Cowboys front office on a deal that could see him come home.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport shared breaking information that the Cowboys have started the conversation with their former superstar and his agent.

Moreover, the report stressed that a deal had not been struck but both were engaged in talks

If the three-time Pro Bowler was to return to Dallas, he would join a rushing core withered down to its bare bones.

Furthermore, both Elliott and Freeman are predominantly short-yardage and goal-to-go rushers.

Elliott still has life in his legs and would serve as a mentor to a rookie

The NFL rushing leader in 2016 took on more responsibility at the tail end of the 2023 season with the New England Patriots.

In week 14, after starter Rhamondre Stevenson was injured, the 28-year-old rushed for 140 scrimmage yards and received a touchdown.

There are still legs in the tank for the former Cowboy as he showed in 2023.

If he were to join, he would relegate Freeman to third-string and would be paired alongside the rookie the franchise is expected to draft.

The Cowboys are ‘zeroed in on’ Texas rusher Johnathon Brooks and Elliott could serve as an excellent mentor.

Nonetheless, progressive talks will be put on hold until after the draft.
