Skrine, Former NFL Cornerback, And Bears DB, Pursuit By Police In Canada

Durham Regional Police Department announced on Wednesday, they are in pursuit of former Chicago Bear’s cornerback Buster Skrine.

The former pro defensive back is on the run over fraud allegations in Canada, he was arrested last year over an alleged fraudulent banking scheme.

The former NFL cornerback was reportedly first arrested in 2023 in Toronto, Canada, last August while trying to make his way back to the United States.

The arrest was made over allegations that he defrauded multiple Canadian banks for more than $100,000. Police in the Regional Municipality of Durham said Skrine used fraudulent checks to withdraw more than $100,000 in cash from numerous banks over roughly one year.

Durham Regional Police Service said Wednesday, that Skrine, who had been out on bail since April 12, never showed up to the date, later noticed his GPS ankle bracelet had gone offline too.

Now, they’re looking to bring him back in and hit him with some additional criminal charges that include failing to appear and failing to comply with the release order.

The police release a statement,

“On Friday, April 12, 2024, the accused was granted bail from a Saskatchewan Correctional Centre, with conditions to abide by a GPS monitoring program and return to Durham Region to attend court. The accused failed to attend his court date on May 6th, 2024, and his GPS monitor has since gone offline. Darryl Frank SKRINE, age 34 from the USA is wanted for: Fail to Appear, and Fail to Comply with Release Order.”

Skrine played two seasons with the Bears from 2019 to 2020, after signing a three-year deal worth $16.5 million by the Bears in 2019. He also played for the Tennessee Titans in 2021 before announcing his retirement the following offseason.
