Jets first round pick Olu Fashanu agrees to his rookie contract

The tackle gets more than $20 million guaranteed.

Jets first round pick Olu Fashanu has signed his rookie contract per Tom Pelissero

It is nice to see the Jets be proactive about getting their top pick signed months in advance of training camp.

In truth, the rookie wage scale has left little to negotiate aside from minor considerations such as offsets and bonus schedules. That said, these issues have proven to be tougher to navigate for the Jets than any other NFL franchise recently. The team has had an inordinate number of first round pick holdouts at the start of camp over the fourteen years of the current rookie wage scale format. This has happened with multiple general managers, suggesting it might be an ownership issue.

Still, with roughly three months between the Draft and the start of training camp, there is always plenty of time to resolve things before we reach a crisis point. The Jets won’t have to deal with the problem this year
