Leeds are battling to return to the Premier League a year after their relegation from the top-flight.
Leeds are reportedly seeking a £15million deal for defender Maximilian Wober after Borussia Monchengladbach expressed an interest in making the Austrian’s loan deal permanent. Reports in Germany suggest that the Whites could accelerate talks over Wober’s future after their Championship play-off campaign.
Wober has spent this season on loan at the Bundesliga club following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League last term. The 26-year-old has made 27 appearances across all competitions for Gladbach.
The German club have revealed that they would like to keep Wober beyond the summer. Sporting director Roland Virkus told BILD: “We are having discussions with everyone involved, of course we would like to keep Max with us. But the demands are extremely high.”
BILD report that Leeds want £15m for the versatile defender in the summer, and insist that he will remain if no offer of that value is made by an interested club. The second-tier side are even hopeful that Wober increases his value by playing well for Austria at Euro 2024.
Wober may end up spending at least a year in the Championship next season. After a goalless draw in the first leg, Leeds host Norwich in the play-off semi-final with a place at Wembley on the line. Daniel Farke’s side suffered a drastic drop in form towards the end of the campaign which saw Ipswich beat them to the second automatic promotion spot.
Leeds have not been in contact with Wober for a while, the player recently revealed. He wants his future resolved after the Euros, in which Austria face a tough group alongside France, Poland and the Netherlands.
