The Brooklyn Nets announced on Wednesday that the franchise will retire Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey. Carter, who is set to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2024, spent four and a half seasons with the Nets in the mid-2000s
The Nets made the announcement via a video posted on their social media. Carter is set to become the seventh player in franchise history to have his jersey retired, joining Julius Erving, Jason Kidd, Bill Melchionni, Drazen Petrovic, Buck Williams, and John Williamson.
After starting his career with the Toronto Raptors, Vince Carter was traded to the New Jersey Nets midway through the 2004-05 season. He spent four-and-a-half years with the franchise, making three All-Star appearances and averaging 23.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. He also helped the Nets make three postseason trips that included two conference semifinal appearances.
Carter was traded to the Orlando Magic following a disappointing 2008-09 season for the Nets as a team. He later established himself as a veteran journeyman, playing for six more franchises. Carter retired in 2020 as a member of the Atlanta Hawks and currently holds the record for most seasons played in the NBA with 22.
