Two City Chiefs players arrested as Super Bowl champions’ rocky…

Kansas City Chiefs’ Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were arrested on Thursday night, with the Super Bowl champions’ offseason going from bad to worse

Two Kansas City Chiefs players – Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick – were arrested on Thursday night for minor marijuana possession.

Court documents reveal that the offensive linemen were both taken into custody at the Johnson County Adult Detention Center around 2 a. m. on Friday morning. They each posted a $2,500 bond in the afternoon and were released just after 4 p.m. following a video appearance before a Johnson County judge. They are now set to appear in court on May 23.

A spokesperson for the team told KSHB-41 that they were aware of the charges but declined to comment further. In Kansas, first-time marijuana/THC possession is considered a level B misdemeanor, reports the Mirror US.

Morris’ arrest follows an impressive rookie season on the offensive line. The player, from Tennessee and Oklahoma, was picked in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. After being listed as inactive for the Chiefs’ first three games, he played in every subsequent match. He even played five snaps in Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVIII victory over San Francisco in February.

Godrick, on the other hand, joined the Chiefs as a designated International Pathway Player in 2023. The Aguleri, Nigeria native was signed to the team’s practice squad last season but did not play in any games.

Thursday evening saw the franchise’s second brush with the law in a month as their rocky off-season continues. Wide receiver Rashee Rice is being probed over two incidents in Dallas.

The Philadelphia-born player, who was picked 55th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been a stabilising force for the Chiefs’ receiving room, racking up nearly 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns. However, the SMU graduate returned to his college town in April and allegedly hit speeds of 117 mph before crashing into the central median divider, triggering a six-car pile-up.

Rice is facing eight felony charges related to the incident and has posted a $40,000 bond. On May 7, it was also revealed by Dallas Police that Rice is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a photographer at the city’s Feu Nightclub.

Rice’s lawyer, Royce West, issued a statement saying: “I want to re-emphasis Mr. Rice’s continued cooperation with law enforcement,” and “Mr. Rice acknowledges his actions and feels deeply for those injured as a result of this accident. Our legal team is now tasked with reviewing all legal documents.”

In another recent controversy, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker caused a national stir after making culturally conservative comments during a commencement speech at a local college.

The three-time Super Bowl champ delivered a speech at Catholic Benedictine College, where he voiced his concerns about “dangerous gender ideologies”, Pride month, President Joe Biden, and COVID-19 conspiracy theories. Most notably, he sparked controversy with his comments on the role of women.

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker remarked during his speech. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

“I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker.”
