Braves News:Minter to injured list, Acuña Jr. set for surgery, and more

Atlanta Braves news and notes from Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves took another hit on the injury front and placed left-hander A.J. Minter on the 15-day injured list. The reliever is experiencing inflammation in his left hip.

Minter’s last outing came on Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals, where he tossed a scoreless frame. Comparative to last season, he has not been as effective but has still produced some promising results. His absence will be greatly felt, though, as Atlanta is left with two southpaws in the bullpen as of now.

Right-handed Jimmy Herget was recalled to Atlanta. It’s been a season full of transactions for Herget, who was recently optioned to Gwinnett on Wednesday. Now, he returns to replace the injured Minter.

In the final flurry of roster moves, the Braves announced that infielder Joey Wendle elected free agency after he was outrighted.
