Chelsea star drops major transfer hint amid ‘serious’ Aston Villa interest

Chelsea midfielder and Aston Villa target Conor Gallagher has made a significant hint ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The England international has been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park over recent weeks as Chelsea are reportedly required to make sales to stay in line with the Premier League’s strict profit and sustainability (PSR) rules.

Unai Emery has listed Gallagher as a priority target as he looks to bolster his midfield ahead of next season’s campaign in the UEFA Champions League. Ross Barkley is already set to join but it’s hoped a raid for another player associated with the Blues can improve Villa’s chances of continuing their impressive upward trajectory.

Gallagher has now spoken out, however, making it clear he’s excited about his future at Stamford Bridge rather than elsewhere. “Myself and everyone at Chelsea are excited and happy to work with Enzo Maresca,” Gallagher told Sky Sports. “We want to get Chelsea back to where they belong!”

Gallagher and Chelsea have contrasting needs

The player may not get his wish as the Blues sacrificing him for funds would be a logical move. As Gallagher is an academy product, any sale would be pure profit for the club, offering a huge help to avoid sanctions from the Premier League ahead of an important season under yet another new manager.

Gallagher making the switch to Villa Park wouldn’t exactly be a poor career call as he would be thrust straight into Europe’s elite continental competition. He’d also be one of the Villans’ star players, likely featuring in a midfield double pivot alongside either Boubacar Kamara or Douglas Luiz.

There would be plenty of competition for places with John McGinn and Youri Tielemans in impressive form but that would be healthy for Gallagher, who is yet to reach his full potential. It’s unknown how much Villa would need to spend to acquire their man but his contract expiring next June would likely cut the price somewhat.
