Bears Mandatory Minicamp: Perfect attendance, offense and defense

The Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall today for the first day of their three-day mandatory minicamp and had perfect attendance.

A few veterans missed some time during the voluntary portion of OTAs, and the plan with those guys is to ramp them up over the duration of the camp.

Head coach Matt Eberflus said the offense was a bit disjointed as they worked through some false start issues, and Caleb Williams was late on a pass over the middle. The false starts were due to the entire offense still getting used to the quarterback’s cadence, and the pick was a learning moment for the rookie.

Tight end Cole Kmet said this was Caleb’s best day regarding getting the play and getting his offense lined up.

“In the huddle, he was crisp and clear and all those things, Kmet said. “I think that just comes with confidence in the playbook that he’s gaining and kind of finding his own voice with the cadence because that’s definitely something that if you can get going, you can weaponize.”

And regarding the interception, Eberflus said to chalk it up to normal rookie growing pains. “He has to go through his progressions, which he did. He was right on his progressions. Then he took a hitch, and the ball should have come out, and he took two hitches, and it was late over the middle. That’s always dangerous when you do that.”

“That’s the learning experience in the process that a young quarterback has to go through.”

But ‘Flus was pleased with the first day of minicamp, saying, “Overall, practice was good. Offense started off strong in 7-on-7. Defense finished strong at the end.”

So, the bottom line is, the Bears win!
