The Athletic have released an update on the transfer front after it was revealed last week that Newcastle have made contact with Crystal Palace over a move for Michael Olise.
They report that Newcastle would ‘love’ to sign the 22-year-old and are prepared to spend a big chunk of their summer budget on the right-winger.
However, a number of alternatives have been discussed in recent transfer meetings as there is a feeling at St James’ Park that the Palace star may be out of our reach following high-level interest from Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Man Utd and Man City.
The Athletic confirm that Chelsea’s Noni Madueke, West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville have all been discussed, while current right-winger Yankuba Minteh could be sacrificed to ensure we raise funds before the June 30 deadline due to a PSR shortfall.
Sky Germany reported on Borussia Dortmund’s interest in the 19-year-old last night and it’s believed he is considered our most realistic route to raising funds this month. However, The Athletic believe suggestions of a £40m price tag are ‘extremely ambitious’, with a sale in excess of £20m deemed more realistic.
They report that the Gambian has interest from a host of clubs across the Premier League an Europe and could be sold for an immediate profit for FFP purposes if a tempting offer arrives.
Minteh signed for £6.5m last summer from Danish side Odense and scored 11 goals for Feyenoord last season during an impressive loan spell.
