Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as reported transfer target is confirmed as moving to Premier League rivals via Olympiacos
Coventry City’s reported pursuit of Marko Stamenic has come to and after confirmation that the Red Star Belgrade midfielder has been signed by Nottingham Forest.
The 22-year-old New Zealand international has signed for the Premier League club on a five year deal and is being immediately loaned out to the Reds’ owner’s Greek club, Olympiacos, for the 2024/25 campaign.
Serbian media have been claiming that the Sky Blues had already clinched a deal for Stamenić with a reported four-year deal and a transfer fee of £4.2m with a 10% sell-on fee for the player’s present club.
Stamenić made 35 appearances for Red Star last season, including four times in the UEFA Champions League, and played an integral part in helping the club to the Serbian SuperLiga and Serbian Cup double.
A 15-time New Zealand international, Stamenić made his debut for his country against Curaçao in September 2021, scoring his first international goal against Qatar last June.
Forest’s official website said: “Nottingham Forest is delighted to announce it has agreed a deal to sign Marko Stamenić from Red Star Belgrade.
“The 22-year-old has joined the club on a five-year deal and will spend the 2024/25 season on loan at Olympiacos.
“Stamenić arrives having played in Denmark and Serbia’s top divisions with Copenhagen and Red Star respectively.
“The midfielder made 23 senior appearances for Copenhagen, lifting the Danish Cup in his final season in Denmark before making the move to Belgrade.”
