Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev has been linked with a switch to German side Borussia Dortmund
Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev has been linked with a return to Germany with Borussia Dortmund linked with the Bulgarian. Signed from Werder Bremen just a year ago on a four-year deal, the 24-year-old became a key cog in Daniel Farke’s side in the latter half of the season after initially struggling to make an impact on the first team.
Dortmund have been interested in signing the midfielder with growing expectation he would be on his way out of Elland Road, however the plans of the German club may have changed. German press are reporting Dortmund are now considering making a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Groß, who could be available for a cut-price fee this summer and represent better value than Gruev.
BILD are reporting the German side are looking at the chances of picking up the experienced 33-year-old for a bargain price this summer with just a year remaining on his current deal with the Premier League side. Where that leaves Dortmund in their pursuit of Gruev is uncertain at present.
Having seen Marco Reus leave the club in the summer Dortmund are keen to strengthen their options in the middle of the park and could push for both players, but it appears at present Groß is the first priority. Leeds meanwhile are waiting on an offer for the player as they consider their options, with Crysencio Summerville the only player on the books to which firm interest has been shown, although there are currently unconfirmed suggestions Nottingham Forest have made a move for Wilfried Gnonto.
