Jets cornerback arrested for marijuana possession in Alabama

New York Jets cornerback Tae Hayes was arrested in Alabama  early Sunday morning on a charge of marijuana possession.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, via the New York Post, Hayes was booked into jail and later released after posting a $300 bond.

The Jets are quoted as saying in a statement: ‘We are aware of the situation and we will refrain from further comment, as it is a pending legal matter.’

Hayes only made one appearance for New York in the 2023 season after being signed to the team’s practice squad back in October.

The 26-year-old has previously spent time with nine different NFL teams since leaving Appalachian State college undrafted in 2019. His most recent spells came with the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions.

He also won a USFL championship in 2022 with the Birmingham Stallions.

Hayes has made 14 NFL appearances since calling time on his college career, but is yet to make a start.

The Jets are set to report to preseason training camp on July 23 ahead of the 2024 season.

Last season they suffered a miserable season after marquee quarterback arrival Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles tendon just four snaps into his debut against the Buffalo Bills. Robert Saleh’s men failed to make it into the postseason without Rodgers at their disposal.
