The New York Knicks were one of the best teams to close out the season. They were expected to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, but a string of injuries eventually stood in their way.
Now, they enter the offseason with a clear-cut star in Jalen Brunson, and plenty of picks and salary flexibility to put another star by his side, regardless of if they keep or trade Julius Randle.
That’s why NBA insider Marc Stein believes they could be a player for Paul George (via NBA Central).
Per his sources, the Knicks are a potential suitor for the former Indiana Pacers swingman, who’s been rumored to be ready to either opt out of his contract or push for a trade somewhere else.
The fact that George and the Los Angeles Clippers haven’t been able to strike a deal makes most people think that he’s ready to move on from Steve Ballmer’s team.
Despite being available more often than Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers don’t seem to hold him to the same value as his co-star, and multiple teams would gladly welcome him with open arms.
For weeks, the Philadelphia 76ers have been rumored to be the most likely destination for him if he decides to leave sunny California, but the Knicks are one of the few teams that could actually outbid them.
Of course, that might also be contingent on whether they’re able to re-sign OG Anunoby or not; otherwise there could be a bit of a positional logjam.
